Inter’s withdrawal from the European Super League comes as little surprise to one source in the Italian media today.

The Nerazzurri confirmed a short while ago that they were no longer part of the new franchise, having signed up to the project along with 11 other European giants on Sunday.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said it was Suning who ratified Inter’s departure from the Super League last night, with a statement to ANSA saying it was ‘no longer of interest in its current state’ to the club.

It is no surprise that Inter were the first Serie A club to pull out, the report explained, because AC Milan and Juventus were ‘more involved’ in the project than the Nerazzurri.

Inter’s involvement in the project was ‘superficial’, according to the Milan-based paper, unlike Ivan Gazidis and Andrea Agnelli who were helping to drive the project.

In order to avoid a repeat of the Super League fiasco, FIGC president Gabriele Gravina is expected to push through laws on Monday which oblige all teams participating in Serie A to make a commitment to UEFA competitions.
