Following the amazing 2-1 win away to Bayern in the Champions League, the Nerazzurri will return to San Siro to face Cagliari, on Serie A 2024/25 matchday 32, with kick off scheduled for Saturday 12 April at 18:00 CEST. In the first meeting this season at the Unipol Domus, the Nerazzurri won 3-0. Bastoni broke the deadlock in the second half with a brilliant goal before Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu rounded off the scoring.
Inter and Cagliari have faced each other 87 times in the Serie A: the Nerazzurri have won 44 times, losing just 14 times and drawing on 29 occasions. Inter are unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 matches against the Sardi in the top flight. Cagliari have conceded the most goals in matches against the Nerazzurri in the history of the league: 152, equating to an average of 1.7 per game. Inter have been particularly strong going forward in home games against the Sardi: the Nerazzurri have scored in each of their last 25 home matches against Cagliari in the Serie A, the longest streak against a single opponent in the league.
With 69 goals scored in 31 matchers, Inter could reach 70 goals scored for the third time in the last 60 seasons following the 2021/22 (71) and 2022/23 (77) seasons. San Siro continues to be a fortress: Inzaghi's side have scored in 37 consecutive home games in Serie A, with the last game in which they did not score coming on 15 April 2023. In the top five league in Europe, only Lille boast a longer streak (39). The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in eleven matches in all competition. A positive streak which is also reflected in several statistics: Simone Inzaghi's side had the highest average possession in Serie A: 59.8%. In addition, they have had 17 different goalscorers and boast the most players with at least one assists in the top five European Leagues: a total of 20, ahead of Barcelona (19) and Roma (18) - eight more than Cagliari (12).
Lautaro Martinez is in brilliant form. As well as his brilliant goal against Bayern, he also boasts some brilliant statistics. The Inter captain has played a part in 126 attempts, shots and created chances - only Krstovic (151) and Nico Paz (137) have a better rate in the league. Cagliari are his favourite side to score against in Serie A: ten goals and one assists in ten appearances, five of which were scored with his head, a personal record against a single opponent.
Marcus Thuram has now scored 14 goals in the league following his goal against Parma, his best rate in a single season in the top five leagues. His only appearance against Cagliari at the Meazza ended with a goal: in the 2-2 draw last season on 14 April 2024.
Barella had a great experience with his former team, making his first 100 Serie A appearances and scoring 7 goals for Cagliari. For Inter, Barella has made seven goal contributions against the Rossoblù (one goal and six assists in eight appearances), more than against any other side in the league. Darmian has scored three times in 23 appearances during this campaign, equalling his personal record from the 2020/21 season. Two of his goals in Serie A have come against Cagliari, a record shared with his goals against Parma.
The Brazilian full-back has raised then rhythm, becoming an additional weapon for the Nerazzurri: he has contributed to three goals in his last six appearances (one goal and two assists), the same numbers as he recorded in his last 43 appearances.
