Inter were once considered the frontrunners in the transfer pursuit of Argentina playmaker Paulo Dybala.

But with Roma entering the fray and Inter failing to match the player’s financial demands, the Nerazzurri never came close to purchasing the services of the Argentinian.

Speaking to the mics of Sky Sport Italia, Inter’s vice-president, Javier Zanetti, admitted that there were negotiations between Inter and the player’s entourage over a transfer in the summer. He said:

“There was a negotiation with Paulo Dybala, but with the return of Lukaku, we had an important attacking pool. Dybala, however, I see him well at Roma, I know Mourinho and I know he can make the most of him.”

After Inter’s interest in La Joya faded away, Roma went on to sign the 28-years-old on a free transfer. Since joining hands with Mourinho, the creative playmaker has played eight matches, having racked up four goals and two assists in all competitions. Dybala has a contract at the Giallorossi until June 2025.
