Denzel Dumfries soaked up the limelight as the Inter Milan hero in last night’s comfortable 2-0 win against bitter rivals Atalanta. The Dutchman notched up a second-half brace to propel the Nerazzurri to the Supercoppa Italiana final.
Inter spurned numerous presentable scoring chances in the first half. Lautaro Martinez had another forgettable night, missing several sitters on either side of halftime. However, he had Dumfries to bail him out. Indeed, the Dutchman netted two incredible goals early in the second half.
After beating Marco Carnesecchi with an over-head kick to break the deadlock three minutes after the break, Dumfries slammed home a thunderous first-time effort to seal the deal for Inter. The 28-year-old addressed the media after his heroics at the Al-Awwal Park Stadium.
“I’m very happy with the win tonight. It was a good performance. We controlled the first half too, and I am happy to help with two goals. It was a great victory tonight,” the Inter wingback told Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews.
“We are playing well, but we must focus on doing it better every game,” Dumfries was adamant. “We are in a good way and must continue like this.“
After posting a seventh consecutive win against Atalanta, Inter are potentially 90 minutes away from making Supercoppa Italian history. The reigning champions could become the first team to win four titles in a row. However, that won’t be plain sailing.
