Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is not likely to start for the Belgian national team in their World Cup group stage clash with Croatia this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that Michy Batshuayi is once again the favourite to start the do-or-die clash in Qatar as the Nerazzurri striker is not yet fully match-fit.

Lukaku had appeared off the bench in the closing stages of Belgium’s 2-0 loss to Morocco over the weekend.

However, the 29-year-old was only ready to play in a cameo appearance in that match.

Lukaku has been working to improve his fitness over the past few days in view of making as much of a contribution as possible in today’s third and final group stage match against Croatia.

The match will be vital for the Red Devils’ hopes of reaching the knockout rounds of the World Cup.

A start cannot be completely ruled out if Lukaku feels fit enough, but in all likelihood he will once again start as a substitute.
