Inter and Stefan de Vrij look to be getting closer and closer towards agreeing a contract extension.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that a meeting should take place in the next few weeks to begin negotiations on a new deal for the 30-year-old.

Over the past few months since the season began, de Vrij has been taking stock of his situation in Milan.

The former Lazio and Feyenoord defender still feels that he has a place at Inter, with the trust of coach Simone Inzaghi and opportunities to play an important role in the team.

Accordingly, the Dutchman’s inclination is towards extending his contract.

An agreement will have to be found on wages, with the club not keen to go any higher than around €4 million net per season, equal to what de Vrij currently earns.

Moreover, the negotiations will establish whether the new contract is for two seasons, or for three, the latter being the player’s preference.

However, the initial contacts have been made and have established that the will of the player is to try and agree a new deal.
