Inter made their superiority on paper count on the pitch in their 3-0 Serie A win over Spezia yesterday evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who praise the Nerazzurri for putting in a performance in which they showed virtually no lapses in concentration to get the job done, and also highlighted early signs that the attacking partnership between Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku could be getting back to its best.
Inter always went into yesterday evening’s match as favourites on paper, given their and Spezia’s respective table finishes last season and the relative quality of their respective squads.
However, it has always been seen in Serie A that the smaller teams are capable of giving the better teams trouble, and Inter themselves experienced this as recently as last weekend when they needed late heroics from Denzel Dumfries to secure three points against newly-promoted Lecce.
Against Spezia, however, the Nerazzurri imposed their preferred tempo and patterns of play, and this made it all but impossible for the away side to really come to grips, as they made sure that they exploited their advantage in quality over the Ligurians.
Meanwhile, the performances by Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, both in terms of the former’s assist for the latter’s opening goal, and their overall display against a solid Spezia backline, were also signs for optimism.
