Inter defied all expectations to stage an “October revolution” to turn around their form despite a tough Champions League draw and the absence of striker Romelu Lukaku through injury.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who note how the Nerazzurri’s excellent October has ripped up a script that many had written for them.

Inter got their October off to a poor start, with a defeat against Roma their second in a row in Serie A having also lost to Udinese prior to the international break.

This was the period where real doubt was being cast over the Nerazzurri, and over the future of Simone Inzaghi as coach.

Things didn’t look to be getting any easier, as Inter had to face Barcelona in their next match.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri had to do so without Romelu Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic, two of their most important players.

In a situation that many expected to only get worse for Inter, however, the team was defiant and managed four points against the Blaugranas.

With yesterday evening’s victory over Viktoria Plzen, Inter have sealed qualification for the Champions League knockouts from a group that many expected to be beyond them even had they not been missing two key players through injury.

Considering that Inter have also won their last three in Serie A in the meantime, the feeling is certainly that the pessimistic projections for Inter’s October have now been followed by the team on the pitch.
