Inter are optimistic that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic will be ready to appear in the team’s Serie A opener against Lecce on Saturday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are expecting that the 29-year-old will be fit for this weekend’s match, but that they would also be ready to trust Kristjan Asllani to start in place of him.

Brozovic has been recovering from a calf problem over the past few days, with the minor strain having appeared shortly before their final friendly of the season against Villarreal and caused him to miss out on that match.

The injury is not very serious but given that the match against Lecce is only a few days ago there is no certainty that he will be fully recovered in time.

The sense within the team, however, is that the Croat is on course to be ready, while Asllani is waiting in the wings as his deputy.
