Simeone Inzaghi’s men lifted the Coppa Italia title once again but were made to work for it against a united Fiorentina.

The breakthrough arrived early in front of a packed stadium as Nicolás González turned things 1-0 within three minutes for the third-quickest goal in a competition final.

Edin Dzeko then almost equalised in the blink of an eye but scuffed his shot wide of the post, signalling this clash would be 90 minutes of pure entertainment.

Eventually, Inzaghi’s men shook off the early shock and ramped up the pressure. Top scorer Lautaro Martinez remained composed enough from close range to tuck the ball into the far corner for 1-1.

He didn’t slow down there either, taking things into his own hands and turning it around for Inter just before the break with an instinctive volley.

Coming out into the second half, Fiorentina looked the likelier side to strike next as González and Arthur Cabral pursued, yet nothing could beat Samir Handanović.

And the football at the Stadio Olimpico continued to be pure drama.

Inter’s other key striker Romelu Lukaku came off the bench and almost joined in on the action, but his long-range strike forced Pietro Terracciano into a double save.

Meanwhile, another substitute almost put his name in lights for Fiorentina, but three late attempts from Luka Jović fell short of an equaliser.

The inspired performance from Inter’s main man was subsequently enough to hold of for back-to-back titles as Fiorentina’s hunt for their first title since 2001 continues.

Having also won the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter’s pursuit of a cup treble remains as they face Manchester City in the Champions League final next.
