Inter are not in a rush to agree on a contract extension with midfielder Nicolo Barella, and will not hurry the process of negotiating with the player whose current deal expires in 2024.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that there is work to be done in the contract talks but the common will is for the 24-year-old to commit his future to the club.

Barella’s current contract is set to run until the end of June 2024, but he is considered a key player by the club and the hope is to secure his future well beyond this date and to send a message that he is not available with a number of European clubs interested in his signature.

To date the Nerazzurri have put forward an offer worth a net of €4.5 million per season to reward the player’s importance at the club, though this may not be enough to convince the player.

At any rate, the negotiations will play out without the club trying to force them along, while they see other situations as more pressing, with Lautaro Martinez’s extension expected to be announced past 2023 when his current deal expires, and the club also working to agree a new deal with Marcelo Brozovic who is out of contract next summer.
