Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the Nerazzurri did well to pick up the pace in the second half of their Champions League group stage win over Benfica.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after the match, via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri wingback gave his immediate reaction to the 1-0 victory.

Inter took control in their Champions League group with this evening’s win over Benfica.

After a poor performance from which the Nerazzurri managed to snatch a draw against Real Sociedad in their opener, the team were far more convincing against the Portuguese champions.

Inter’s margin of victory was only a narrow 1-0 scoreline.

But in truth, that scoreline flatters the visiting side.

Particularly in the second half, Inter created quite a few good chances to score. The Nerazzurri, and particularly Lautaro Martinez, forced Benfica keeper Anatoliy Trubin to make several good saves.

And it was a Nerazzurri performance that looked controlled and fluid in all areas of the pitch.

“In the first half we were a bit slow,” Dimarco noted.

“But then at halftime we spoke and then we were a lot better in the second half.”

“All our matches in this group are difficult,” Dimarco said after the match.

“This was a great Inter performance,” he continued. “We were hungry to win.”

“But we also have to kill off matches,” the 25-year-old commented. “All these matches can poses major difficulties, and if we don’t kill them off then anything can happen.”

Regarding the goal from Marcus Thuram, Dimarco said that “All our forwards are doing well. We’re well set-up up front.”

“Every match is different,” Dimarco said. “They’re separate matches.”

“It’s not easy to play every three days,” he noted. “But we’re we’re in a good place.”

The Inter wingback added that “We work hard during the week. This group is great and very compact, we can do well during the matches.”
