Inter Milan wingback feels that the fact that the Nerazzurri have had such a tough season only strengthens their desire to win this weekend’s Champions League final vs Man City.

The Dutchman spoke to Dutch news outlet Voetbal International, via FCInterNews, about the upcoming final and what winning it would mean.

Inter have not had a straightforward season by any means.

In truth, it has been a real emotional rollercoaster, for the players, the coaching staff, and the fans.

As recently as a couple months ago, the Nerazzurri’s season looked on the brink. The team were outside of the Serie A top four after losing four matches and drawing one in five.

However, it would be safe to say that Inter have turned things around.

The Nerazzurri have managed to turn their form around in the league. This has enabled them to finish third, ensuring a spot in the Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, Inter have also won the Coppa Italia, triumphing over Fiorentina in the final last month.

And of course, there is the Champions League. The Nerazzurri have already had quite a journey in the competition, although they’ve yet to take the final step.

If Inter can manage to overcome Manchester City in the final, it will come as a real vindication. Perhaps even moreso given what a trying season it has been for the team at times.

Inter Star Dumfries: Want To Put Tough Season In The Past By Beating Man City

Nerazzurri wingback Dumfries gave his thoughts on what a win in the final would mean for the team.

“We’re on the biggest stage,” he said. “I’m very proud to be there.”

“We haven’t had an easy season, but that’s also an advantage for us,” the former PSV wingback suggested. “It makes us even hungrier.”

“Winning the Champions League would be a huge achievement.”

Dumfries noted that “We have to play well on a tactical level.”

“We saw during the FA Cup final that they have an excellent midfield,” he continued. “But we have to focus on ourselves, on what we can control.”

“We will prepare for the match in the best way possible,” Dumfries said. “We’ll show that we’re a strong team.”
