Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that the team shouldn’t get ahead of themselves at the thought of possibly meeting city rivals AC Milan in the Champions League, as they are focused on reaching the quarterfinals of the competition against Porto.

Speaking at a charity event for his Pupi Foundation, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive stressed the importance of keeping their focus on the second leg of their round of sixteen clash with Porto.

Inter and Milan both carry a slender advantage into the second leg of their respective Champions League round of sixteen ties.

The Nerazzurri beat Porto 1-0 in the first leg of theirs, whilst the Rossoneri won the first leg of their tie 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur.

It is hardly written in stone that either or both will progress to the next round given these scorelines, but it’s certainly a possibility, and then if they did there would be the possibility of being drawn in the quarterfinals or beyond that.

When this was pointed out, Zanetti stressed that “First thing we’re focused on is the match against Porto, which won’t be easy, we hope we’ll be able to get to the next round, and then we’ll see.”

“If fate has it that we meet [Milan] then we’ll be ready,” he added.

Of what the team need for the second leg of their tie against Porto, Zanetti replied that “We’ll need to see a very focused Inter, we have to show great determination because we’re going to a very intense stadium, playing a team who can cause us problems in Porto.”

“But I think we’ll be ready for it because we’ll prepare for the match in the best way possible,” he added.

Of what reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League would represent, Zanetti replied that “It would be massively important, because it would be another step forward on the path that we’re on.”

“We certainly have to be aware of what a big opportunity this is,” he added.
