Nerazzurri Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that Inter Milan have every ambition to try and win the Club World Cup this year.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, Zanetti outlined his club’s approach to the new format of the competition.
This year, FIFA have changed the format of the Club World Cup.
The football governing body have expanded the tournament. Multiple teams will vie for the trophy from each confederation, rather than just one.
Moreover, instead of taking place in December, the Club World Cup will be held in the summer. This will take place immediately after the end of the European club season.
Inter are in the Club World Cup. They are one of two teams from Serie A in the expanded edition of the tournament along with Juventus.
On the one hand, it will be a tough challenge for the Nerazzurri. There are already many matches to play, and this will add further stress to the fixture list.
But on the other hand, this constitutes another opportunity for Inter to win silverware.
Inter Vice-President Zanetti argued that “I believe over the last 4-5 years we’ve proven our ability to be consistent and always be competitive.”
He called the Club World Cup “a great opportunity to show the world that Inter care about this competition.”
“We want to go all the way in it,” the Nerazzurri Vice-President declared.
Zanetti warned that “It won’t be easy.”
“There are a lot of great teams in it. But we’ll be ready.”
Meanwhile, Zanetti said of Inter’s captain that “I wish all the best to Lautaro.”
“I’ve known him since he arrived at Inter. And immediately after we chose to sign him, we saw that he could become what he’s proving to be now.”
“He has a strong sense of belonging at Inter,” Zanetti said of Martinez.
“I hope that he can lift this trophy, and many others. That would make me happy as an Interista, and all the other Inter fans.”
