Inter are ready to sign a minimum of two defenders during the summer transfer window, as they are keen to reinstate Matteo Darmian as a right-wingback first and foremost.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that in addition to replacing Milan Skriniar and potentially other departing defenders, the Nerazzurri want to make sure that Darmian does not have to be called into action in the back three next season.

Whilst Darmian’s performances on the right side of Inter’s back three whilst Milan Skriniar has been injured have been more than solid, the 33-year-old’s preferred role is on the right flank.

Accordingly, the Nerazzurri want to make sure that the former Torino and Manchester United man is strictly employed in the wingback role next season.

To this end, it will be a priority that there is enough defensive depth without Darmian that the 33-year-old is rarely if ever called into action in the back three.

Accordingly, not only is it certain that Inter will sign a defender to replace Skriniar, but also that Danilo D’Ambrosio would be replaced with a departure looking more and more likely for the 34-year-old.

Meanwhile, the uncertain futures of both Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi at Inter would mean that the Nerazzurri could be in search of a replacement for one or both of the pair of defenders.
