One long-term target that Inter are still searching for in the transfer market is a “sixth” midfielder.

During the summer, the Nerazzurri had looked close to securing the signature of Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic.

That deal broke down in controversial circumstances.

This led to Inter instead investing in Benjamin Pavard in defense. And for the midfield, they brought back Stefano Sensi and signed Davy Klaassen as shorter-term options.

But Inter’s attempt to sign Samardzic made clear the kind of profile that the club are after.

The Nerazzurri want a left-sided box-to-box midfielder. And the idea is to sign a player with creative and goalscoring abilities from midfield.

Moreover, Inter want a young player.

Whilst the experienced Klaassen was brought in to plug a gap, Inter want to eventually sign a midfielder who has the prospects to grow into the team, from a rotation option to a starting-quality player.

Inter To Scout Monza Midfielder Andrea Colpani Vs Hellas Verona

One young player in Serie A who certainly checks Inter’s boxes is Monza midfielder Andrea Colpani.

This has been a real breakout campaign for the 24-year-old.

Last season, Colpani had been feeling his way into the Brianzoli first team.

But this time around, the midfielder has been virtually undroppable from Raffaele Palladino’s starting eleven.

The 24-year-old has chipped in with five goals already.

This form has marked Colpani out as a clear target for Inter.

But the question could be whether or not the Italian keeps it up.

If Colpani’s form dips as the campaign goes on, Inter may think twice or move onto other targets.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will be watching the 24-year-old’s trajectory closely.

And this will start with scouting him at tomorrow’s match against Verona.
