Inter Milan’s hunt for a new goalkeeper has hit several brick walls as their search for Andre Onana’s successor involves three different options.

Bayern Munich veteran Yann Sommer tops the Italians’ shortlist, but negotiations with the perennial Bundesliga champions are taking too long.

Before sanctioning the 34-year-old’s move to Giuseppe Meazza, the Bavarians are keen to land a new shot-stopper first, which is frustrating the Nerazzurri.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s rising star Anatoliy Trubin is another genuine target for Inter, but the Ukrainians’ are playing hardball on the 21-year-old’s departure.

If Beppe Marotta fails to persuade Shakhtar to lower their demands, Sampdoria’s Emil Audero could be an emergency signing for the Champions League runners-up.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Marotta sees the 26-year-old as a cost-effective addition to Simone Inzaghi’s squad after the Blucerchiati failed to hold on to their Serie A status last season.

The relegation to Serie B may compel the Genoa-based outfit to sell several first-team players, as life in the second tier after a long-term top-flight stay often requires sacrifice.

La Samp’s current situation plays right into Inter’s hands. Otherwise, they would probably have had to allocate significant funds to land Audero, who swapped Juventus for the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in 2019.

Sampdoria paid the record-time Italian champions €20 million to sign the Italian stopper permanently after his impressive season-long loan in 2018/19.

He has made 163 Serie A appearances for the club, keeping 36 clean sheets, including four in the fateful 2022/23 campaign.

But maybe it’s time to move on, even though newly-appointed manager Andrea Pirlo would rather the ex-Juve man stayed with the club.

Given the circumstances, La Dea remain in a decent bargaining position as Audero’s contract runs out in 2026.

Inter will unlikely fork out €20m for Audero, considering they’ve already refused to meet Shakhtar’s €18m asking price for Trubin.
