Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that the experience of winning the World Cup with the Argentine national team has helped him to grow as a player.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over AC Milan in the derby, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old noted how the experience in Qatar has helped him to reach the excellent run of form he has been on ever since.

Martinez was once again Inter’s man for the big occasion, as the Argentine scored his seventh goal across all competitions since the team returned from the winter break.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that this run of form has come right after the World Cup.

Whilst Martinez was not always on the pitch for Argentina as the Albiceleste lifted the trophy in Qatar, he did gain a major boost in confidence and self-belief from the experience of helping his country to lift international football’s biggest trophy.

“I said it as soon as the tournament was over, the World Cup give you energy, it’s the best gift I’ve had in my career,” the striker said.

“I learned a lot and I try to express it on the pitch.”

“Wearing this armband is a source pride,” the Argentine said of being Inter captain on the night, “I’ve worked a lot and since I arrived here I’ve tried to give my best.”

“Winning the derby is always special,” Martinez added.
