While their team was getting hammered on the pitch, Lazio fans kept voicing their support until the final whistle and beyond, leaving Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram in awe.
The Biancocelesti faithful flocked to the Stadio Olimpico in the hopes of witnessing another superb display from Marco Baroni’s men, especially following the excellent performances in the doubleheader against Napoli and then the Europa League contest against Ajax in Amsterdam. However, Monday night proved dramatically different.
After conceding twice late in the first half, Lazio completely faltered following the break, shipping in another four. The home side was also hampered by the consequences, as Mario Gila fell ill and his replacement Samuel Gigot then suffered a blow to the head, which left Baroni with a makeshift backline. However, these incidents cannot justify a 0-6 defeat at home.
But amid all the chaos, the Lazio supporters in the stands stuck by the team, expressing their never-ending love for the club with songs like “I Giardini di Marzo”, and then saluted the players after the final whistle. Therefore, Thuram was astonished by the Laziali’s reaction.
“The Lazio fans are incredible. Did you see them?!” the French striker was caught whispering in the ear of former Lazio and Inter bomber Christian Vieri while being interviewed by DAZN after the contest (via Lazio Space).
