Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram is set to start for France in this evening’s pre EURO 2024 friendly against Germany.
This according to French outlet L’Equipe, via FCInterNews.
Inter striker Thuram is hoping to head into the Euros this summer as the starting striker for France.
The Inter striker has not ever quite nailed down a place in the first-choice lineup for Les Bleus so far in his international break.
Thuram, who got his first senior cap for France in 2020. And he has made a total of sixteen appearances for the country.
This included in the World Cup final against Argentina last winter. Thuram came off the bench during the first half of that match.
Thuram has competition for the starting striker spot for his national team, however.
Firstly, there is AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud.
The 37-year-old is still staking his claim for the starting spot. Even at his age, he remains a regular scorer in Serie A for the Rossoneri.
Giroud is France’s all-time top-scorer. The former Arsenal and Chelsea veteran was the starter at both of the last World Cups.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani is also an option in the centre-forward.
Like Thuram, Muani came off the bench in the most recent World Cup final.
L’Equipe note that all of Thuram, Giroud, and Muani will be vying for the starting spot this summer.
And Thuram has been in outstanding form with Inter since his summer transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach. This could give him the advantage.
Thuram will have the chance to “audition” for the role in this evening’s match. Les Bleus face Germany as they aim to find their chemistry ahead of the Euros.
And Thuram will be the player coach Didier Deschamps opts for in attack.
The Inter striker will lead the line in an attacking trio alongside Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
