Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has opened up on his feelings after lifting the Scudetto in his first season in Serie A.
In his latest interview with Inter TV via FCInterNews, the Swiss veteran admitted the Nerazzurri are hellbent on defending their crown this term.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s charges splashed out a measly €6.75 million to capture the 35-year-old’s services.
After offloading Andre Onana to Manchester United in a mega-money transfer, Inter needed a top-class replacement.
However, they refused to spend fortunes to replace the Cameroonian star.
Beppe Marotta instead went for a proven low-cost solution.
And it worked wonders.
Sommer kept an eye-catching 19 clean sheets in 34 Serie A appearances last season.
Moreover, he only conceded an average of 0.55 goals per game, helping Inter win the title without breaking a sweat.
Last season was a landmark occasion for Inter.
Sommer was part of the club’s history, being part of that squad that lifted the 20th Scudetto.
After helping the Nerazzurri put the second star on their jersey, he’s eager to keep winning trophies at Giuseppe Meazza.
“Last season, we had the massive goal of winning the Scudetto, but you never know how it will go,” the experienced keeper said.
“I’m very happy with last year—for the team and for what we achieved.
“Yes, I’m proud.
“It was a significant achievement for all of us because we had a special season.
“The club, the staff, everyone did an incredible job.
“But now we’re in a new season, a new year, facing new challenges, and we’re giving it our all once again.”
Sommer will be in goal when Inter and Parma lock horns at Meazza on Friday.
