Inter Milan set asking price for Chelsea target Lukaku | OneFootball

Inter Milan have set their asking price for forward Romelu Lukaku, amid potential interest from former club, Chelsea.

The 28-year-old has recovered from a difficult stint at Manchester United to solidify his status as one of Europe’s most prolific striking talents, having netted a remarkable 64 goals in just 95 games in all competitions for the Italian club since making the move from Old Trafford in 2019.

That tally included 24 Serie A goals last term as Inter powered to a first Scudetto in over a decade, albeit with the club having since seen title-winning coach Antonio Conte depart following a dispute with the club’s owners.

That scenario arose due to the ongoing financial difficulties at the club, with the Nerazzurri allowing Achraf Hakimi’s to join Paris Saint-Germain in order to balance the books.

The sale of Hakimi has lessened the pressure on the club to allow the likes of Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez to follow the Moroccan out the door, and Tuttosport are reporting that Inter have set a ‘tall’ asking price of €120 million (£102m) to deter potential suitors amid interest in the Belgian from Champions League winners, Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel’s side appear on the hunt for a new striking addition, having allowed Olivier Giroud to depart for AC Milan and with Tammy Abraham seemingly surplus to requirements.

At present, Borussia Dortmund man Erling Haaland is heavily rumoured for a switch to Stamford Bridge, although it remains unclear whether the German club will sell, even for an astronomical fee.

With their pursuit of the Norwegian stalling, reports have suggested that Bayern Munich hotshot Robert Lewandowski could be an alternative, the club looking to rectify their striking issue of last season which saw joint-top scorers Abraham and Timo Werner net just 12 goals in all competitions.

As for Lukaku, the Belgian previously joined the west London club in 2011 from Anderlecht, yet went on to make just ten Premier League appearances, spending much of his time at the club out on-loan at both West Bromwich Albion and Everton, before signing for the latter on a permanent deal in 2014.
