Inter Milan are scouting Boca Juniors midfielder Valentin Barco and San Lorenzo wingback Agustin Giay.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the duo are among the focus of Dario Baccin’s trip to South America.

Inter Assistant Sporting Director Baccin is currently in South America.

The Nerazzurri executive is on a scouting mission.

Baccin is typically the man who Inter rely on to monitor talent in South American leagues as part of their transfer strategy.

Inter have enjoyed plenty of success bringing in players from across the Atlantic ocean. This has been the case both historically and in recent years.

Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez is almost a perfect success story in this respect.

And whilst it would be going too far to say that Baccin is looking for the “next Lautaro” he is keeping an active eye out.

And according to the Gazzetta, there are a couple of profiles in particular on Baccin’s radar.

Inter Assistant Sporting Director Scouts Valentin Barco & Agustin Giay

As part of Baccin’s scouting trip, the Inter executive attended the Copa Libertadores final.

The Nerazzurri man watched Fluminense dispatch Boca Juniors in extra time.

Naturally Baccin had plenty of players to keep an eye on. But according to the Gazzetta, the Inter executive had a plan to particularly scout teenage Boca midfielder Barco.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a top talent within Argentine football in the last year or so.

This has meant that many of Europe’s big clubs are keeping an eye on Barco.

And Inter are among them. Nerazzurr Assistant Sporting Director Baccin reported back about the young Argentine’s performance.

But Barco isn’t the only player within the Argentine league who Baccin has been following.

There is also 19-year-old wingback Augustin Giay.

Giay had been out with a long-term injury. But he has returned from that setback and appears to have found form.

The Gazzetta note that Giay has identified a former and current Inter players as his idols in his position. He models his game after Achraf Hakimi and Juan Cuadrado.

And therefore, Giay could well make a very logical target for Inter.

The price tag for the teenager would be around €6 million.
