Inter Milan and Sampdoria continue to discuss a possible deal for Italy’s teenage sensation Giovanni Leoni.

The 17-year-old rose to prominence last season when he made the move from Padova to the Blucerchiati last February.

The defender immediately cemented himself as a pillar at the back in Andrea Pirlo’s starting formation.

The Roman youngster has now completed a permanent move to Sampdoria who were happy to pay 1.5 million euros to secure the youngster’s services. The Ligurians will be looking to make a significant capital gain, and this could ensue sooner rather than later.

Leoni has already attracted some of the biggest clubs in Italy, and chief among them the Serie A champions Inter.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri are still embroiled in talks with Sampdoria over the youngster.

Inter would like to sign the Italy U18 starlet and keep him on loan at the Luigi Ferraris. This would allow him to garner additional experience at the senior level, preparing him for a move to Appiano Gentile.

Nevertheless, the two clubs must still find a compromise, and this could include a player swap.

The two clubs share amicable relations, often exchanging players. Last season, Inter youngsters Sebastiano Esposito and Filip Stankovic both spent their campaign on loan at Pirlo’s court.

Furthermore, the Serbian goalkeeper could have an important role to play in unlocking the Leoni operation.

As FcInter1908 notes, Sampdoria’s squad currently lacks a goalkeeper following Emil Audero’s departure. The 27-year-old returned to the Ligurian club following his loan spell at Inter, only to complete a switch to the newly-promoted Como.

Therefore, the Serie B side is hoping to secure Stankovic’s services for another campaign, which could pave the way for a swap with Leoni.
