Inter Milan no longer view Marcelo Brozovic as untouchable as they are planning to sell him in the summer, as per a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Croatian midfielder’s form at Inter has notably dipped this season, mainly because of injury issues.

However, he has excelled for Croatia, playing a key role in their third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup.

Brozovic started in back-to-back Serie A defeats against Spezia and Juventus, during which he failed to live up to expectations.

His performance in the derby defeat last night received more scrutiny, and questions have been raised over his current form.

Hakan Calhanoglu was a revelation in the defensive midfield role when Brozovic was sidelined with injuries, producing consistent displays to become a central figure in Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Inter are prioritising a contract extension for the Turkish international, whose current deal expires in 2024. The Nerazzurri see him as a pivotal player in their plans.

By contrast, Brozovic has been experiencing a difficult phase, and Inter are not ruling out his sale in the summer.

The 30-year-old is among the club’s highest earners, and his departure could help the Nerazzurri ease their financial troubles.

Barcelona have been linked with the Croatian midfielder in their attempt to find a successor to Sergio Busquets.

However, with Busquets now looking more likely to stay at Camp Nou, doubts have emerged over the arrival of a potential new midfielder in the summer transfer window.

The Catalan giants are hamstrung by their financial crisis, which has prompted them to target more free transfers and cost-effective deals.

Barca’s priority is to sign a new striker, with Brazilian talent Vitor Roque earmarked as the top target.

A right-back is also on the wishlist, with Villarreal’s Juan Foyth and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard among the candidates.

Atletico Madrid are another club considering a move for Brozovic in the summer, with manager Diego Simeone an admirer of the Croatian.
