Inter would be ready to offer Roma defender Chris Smalling a two-year contract worth a net of €3.5 million per season to sign on a free transfer next summer.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s offer would be superior to that from the Giallorossi who are hoping to extend the Englishman’s contract.

Roma have been trying to extend Smalling’s contract, with their offer a two-year deal worth €2.5 million net per season, less than the €3.8 million net per season which the former Manchester United defender currently earns.

Inter are following the situation closely, with the 33-year-old yet to give a response to Roma’s contract offer.

The player’s representatives were in Italy around ten days ago, where they were pleased to receive the interest of the Nerazzurri.

Given Smalling’s experience and his suitability playing in a back three and in Serie A, the Englishman is a real target for Inter as they could be restyling their defense going into next season.
