Inter Milan have struck an agreement with Bayern Munich for the acquisition of Benjamin Pavard, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Nerazzurri will pay their German counterparts an initial €30 million plus a further €2m in add-ons.
Since bidding farewell to ex-skipper Milan Skriniar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent, Inter have been in the market for defensive reinforcement.
Chelsea duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Trevoh Chalobah were high on Inter’s wishlist, but the former favoured a move to Atletico Madrid, while the latter is currently sidelined for the next month.
This forced Inter to look elsewhere in their search for a new centre-back, and the Serie A outfit are now on the verge of landing Pavard whose future at the Allianz Arena has been up in the air for some time now.
Pavard is in the final year of his contract and has shown no desire to sign a new deal. He has been pursued this summer by both Manchester clubs, but to no avail, as he inches closer to a move to the San Siro.
While he has played as a right-back for most of his Bayern spell, Pavard has insisted that his best position is in the heart of the defence.
Joining Inter will allow him to feature in his preferred role due to the presence of Denzel Dumfries.
However, Bayern are reportedly working on a replacement for Pavard before finally sanctioning his exit.
They have earmarked RB Leipzig’s Lukas Klostermann as their prime target, given his ability to play both right-back and centre-back positions.
