Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has offered a major update on the future of the exit-linked Hakan Calhanoglu.

During his latest interview via FCInterNews, Marotta played down speculation linking the Turk with an immediate departure.

Hakan Calhanoglu has been at the center of wild market rumors since the beginning of the summer.

Indeed, he first emerged as a concrete target for Galatasaray.

However, after talks with the reigning Super Lig champions fell apart, Fenerbahce joined the race for the midfielder.

Furthermore, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc reportedly made direct contact with the player to convince him to move to Istanbul.

On the other hand, the 31-year-old allegedly vowed to team up with Jose Mourinho’s side during a phone call.

Yet, the Canaries have never sent a formal offer for the former AC Milan ace.

Inter’s requests have never changed. They want at least €30 million to let their long-serving star leave San Siro.

Despite persistent speculation suggesting otherwise, Calhanoglu looks close to staying in Serie A.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri will only sell their prized asset on their own terms. Otherwise, he stays.

“I wouldn’t want it to become a case when it really isn’t one, out of respect for the player and Inter,” Marotta said.

“All these so-called transfer requests that never actually arrive are mostly media-driven…

“There’s been no offer, so there’s nothing to consider and nothing to respond to. We expect him here on the 23rd.”

Then, he admitted he had a conversation with the player.

“Yes, always. Just like with other players, Inter have never expressed any desire to let him go,” Marotta added.

With Calhanoglu likely to stay, Inter will unquestionably drop their interest in Granit Xhaka.
