Epic scenes at San Siro saw the reigning Scudetto holders beat runaway La Liga leaders in the most dramatic circumstances.

Despite leading 2-0 at halftime, Simone Inzaghi’s men were on the precipice of elimination heading into second-half stoppages.

However, Francesco Acerbi saved the day with a last-gasp equalizer to send the tie to extra time.

Davide Frattesi put the icing on the cake to help Inter reach the European final for the second time in three years.

Indeed, it’s time for redemption after a heartbreaking loss to Manchester City in 2023.

Meanwhile, it’s party time in Milan. Both players and fans deserve it after a dazzling semi-final success.

“An epic match,” Beppe Marotta said in the aftermath. “Between two great teams, credit goes to the coach, the players, and our magnificent fans.

“We’re honored to be playing in the final because we earned it.

“Inzaghi is at the heart of this model, supported by a club and ownership that’s always present, albeit silently.

“It’s a victory for everyone, but the main architect is undoubtedly the coach.”

Asked if the return fixture exceeded expectations, Marotta replied: “I wouldn’t say so. We’ve had confidence ever since Istanbul.

“This group has been together with the coach for four years. We are among Europe’s elite, and deservedly so, with determination.

“The greatest match of my career? For emotions and adrenaline, absolutely yes. A showcase for football around the world.”

Marotta’s statement wasn’t far from the truth.

After all, Inter squeaked past Barcelona in the joint-highest-scoring semi-final tie in Champions League history.
