Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta insists Oaktree consider a new stadium central to their project amid the ongoing San Siro saga.

During his pre-Young Boys interview with Sky Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the veteran executive addressed several topics, including the infamous synthetic pitch.

The defending Serie A champions are about to lock horns with the Swiss side in their third UEFA Champions League encounter this term.

After losing Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Acerbi to injuries against Roma, Simone Inzaghi made numerous changes to his starting XI.

However, a lack of practice on artificial turf could lead to additional fitness problems.

Marotta hopes it won’t be the case.

“The synthetic pitch is very tricky, we hope no one gets hurt. It’s a particular characteristic of this club, which we respect.

“But UEFA will need to intervene because playing on synthetic turf creates problems that can cause harm.

The Inter president also discussed Simone Inzaghi’s numerous line-up tweaks.

“The lineup changes? They stem from the demanding schedule during this period.

“We have a large squad, the coach decides who plays, and we’re at ease. It’s right to apply rotation, also considering some absences.”

“First of all, it’s a historic event. Two ministers, Giuli and Abodi, sat at the table with the mayor and the two ownerships,” Marotta stated.

“It’s a sign that politics also wants to speed up the process. Oaktree considers the new stadium a strategic asset, as it can generate new revenue for the club’s sustainability.

“It also fosters a sense of belonging and loyalty, ensuring extra-football activities and bringing fans closer to our club.”

Inter will take on Juventus in the heavily anticipated Derby d’Italia next Sunday.

However, Marotta doesn’t want to look that far ahead.

“We know it takes on a special significance in terms of emotional involvement. I don’t think it’s decisive.

“I believe the real challenges will come tonight against an unpredictable opponent who, on paper, doesn’t seem to have great strength.

“But we must always have the right mental approach to face these matches properly.”
