Dethroned Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly readying a new contract offer for in-form wing-back Ivan Perisic amid Chelsea rumours.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia, the Nerazzurri have tabled €5m-a-year salary, including add-ons, to tie their standout performer down to a new deal.

Perisic will now open discussions with his representatives to decide whether to accept the bid, with Chelsea reportedly waiting in the wings.

His current contract at Giuseppe Meazza is due to expire in June, and Inter are working around the clock to extend his stay beyond the summer.

After playing a bit-part role under title-winning manager Antonio Conte in 2020/21, the Croatia international has become an indispensable starter under Simone Inzaghi.

Perisic racked up 35 Serie A appearances in 2021/22, tallying eight goals and seven assists.

Yet, the highlight of the Croat’s impressive season was his match-winning performance in Inter’s 4-2 Coppa Italia win over Juventus in May.

His quick-fire extra-time brace at the Stadio Olimpico catapulted the 19th-time Serie A champions to Coppa Italia glory for the first time in over a decade.

Many expected the 33-year-old to be handed a new contract as the reward for his significant contribution to Inter’s domestic double, including a Supercoppa Italiana triumph over Juve.

However, extension talks are not progressing as expected.

A stalemate in negotiations between Inter and Perisic has encouraged Chelsea to step up their interest in the ex-Wolfsburg man.

Thomas Tuchel is open to the prospect of signing the veteran wing-back as a short-term replacement for outgoing left-back Marcos Alonso.

But watch out for newly-rich Newcastle United, who are bracing themselves for a busy transfer window after securing a mid-table Premier League finish.

The Magpies are also assessing the possibility of approaching Perisic to further reinforce Eddie Howe’s squad following a massive January transfer window.
