Inter Milan are right on the verge of extending the contract of their captain Lautaro Martinez.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper reports that the Argentine’s wages will increase to €7 million net per season.
As things stand, Martinez’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2026.
The former Racing Club striker signed his current deal during the fall of 2021.
There may not be any panic to extend Martinez’s deal. But by all accounts, Inter want to do so sooner rather than later.
The Argentine has become a hugely important player for the Nerazzurri in his five seasons and counting at the club. This season he has begun wearing the captain’s armband.
Martinez has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons.
And considering that the striker has already found the back of the net fifteen times this season, it seems exceedingly likely that he will do so again.
There has also been persistent transfer interest in Martinez. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all targeted the Inter striker in the past couple transfer windows.
Barcelona and Manchester City have also chased Martinez during his time at the Nerazzurri.
According to the Gazzetta, the talks with Martinez and his agent are already very far along.
There have been no obstacles in the negotiations. Inter are naturally determined to extend their captain’s contract, whilst Martinez’s only thought is to sign a new deal.
The 26-year-old wants to stay at Inter for a long while, and the negotiations reflect that.
According to the Gazzetta, therefore, Martinez could put pen to paper very soon.
Inter could make the Argentine’s contract extension official in the first week of January.
Martinez will, of course, receive an increase in his wages.
The Nerazzurri captain should earn around €7 million net per season on his new contract until the end of June 2028, the Gazzetta reports.
