Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that the Nerazzurri’s season is now essentially a lost cause in the league, and that the team must find consistency.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, the former keeper gave his thoughts on Inter’s season at this stage and what the priorities must be.
Inter will hardly have been optimistic about winning the Serie A title at any point in the past few weeks, but the loss to Bologna just a couple weeks after a draw against Sampdoria will have been the final nail in the coffin.
Whilst there are still the Coppa Italia and the Champions League to play for, the league is now looking like nothing more than an exercise in fighting for top four.
In the view of former keeper Zenga, this is evidence that the Nerazzurri project is lacking quite a bit of consistency, which should be considered the most important thing at this point.
“The thing that’s vital for building something is consistency, and that’s what Inter have been lacking,” he argued.
“When the Nerazzurri have played in the biggest matches, they’ve looked great, and this shows the quality of their squad.”
“But they’ve lost seven matches in the league already,” he noted, “there are obvious problems, the incredible season that Napoli are having is no excuse.”
Zenga added that “From Inter’s perspective, I think the league is now a lost cause this season.”
