Legendary former Inter striker Roberto Boninsegna feels that, after seeing the gulf between the Nerazzurri and AC Milan on the pitch in yesterday’s derby match, there is massive regret for losing out on the Serie A title last season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Anch’io Lo Sport, via FCInterNews, the former striker suggested that the Rossoneri looked like a team who had played their youth side in what was a rather one-sided derby clash.

Inter have now beaten their city rivals twice in the space of less than three weeks, quite emphatically proving their superiority in the current moment.

However, a draw and a loss in the league derbies last season proved to be the difference in a title race that went down to the final day and saw the Nerazzurri miss out on the Scudetto to their city rivals by the narrowest of margins.

From Boninsegna’s view, the fact that Inter allowed the Rossoneri to pip them to the title last time around is a source of regret.

“Inter must have some massive regrets after last season a couple of substitutions meant that Milan ended up winning the derby,” the former striker looked back.

“The Rossoneri were handed the Scudetto on that day,” he argued.

“If [former Inter Sporting Director Giuseppe] Prisco had been watching, he would have said that Milan played their Primavera side,” Boninsegna said of the Rossoneri’s performance in yesterday evening’s derby.

“They virtually waved the white flag.”

“This match showed that Inter are probably the only team left who can contest the Scudetto, all the others are probably out of the running,” Boninsegna added.
