Inter Milan are reportedly monitoring the progress of Oud-Heverlee Leuven young goalkeeper Tobe Leysen.

The 21-year-old has recently emerged as a potential candidate to join the Nerazzurri next summer.

Tuttosport (via FcInterNews) adds more weight to the story, underlining Inter’s desire to sign the Belgian goalkeeper in the summer.

As the Turin-based newspaper tells it, Inter sent Samir Handanovic to scout Leysen during his club’s recent encounter against Standard Liege.

The former Nerazzurri captain retired at the end of last season, but remains part of the club.

The Slovenian is now helping the Serie A giants in their quest to find a solid custodian who can eventually take the torch from 35-year-old Yann Sommer.

Leysen joined OH Leuven last summer after climbing through the ranks of Genk. He has become a Belgium U21 international.

His rise earned him inevitable comparisons to his compatriot Thibaut Courtois. The latter is one of the best shot-stoppers on the planet, and currently plies his trade at Real Madrid. He’s been nursing an injury since the start of the season.

The Nerazzurri plan to adopt the same strategy applied with Brazao, even though the Brazilian hasn’t truly reached the desired levels.

Nevertheless, the source warns the Serie A leaders of competition from English and German clubs who have also inquired about the young Belgian.

This season, Leysen has made 14 appearances across all competitions. He conceded six goals in total and earned four clean sheets.
