Inter Milan midfield stalwart Nicolo Barella has assessed the club’s chances of winning a long-awaited UEFA Champions League title.
During last night’s AIC Gran Gala ceremony, Barella outlined Nerazzurri’s ambition to lift the most prestigious club title via FCInterNews.
It’s been a phenomenal European campaign for Simone Inzaghi’s charges thus far.
Except for a scoreless draw at Manchester City, they have won all four remaining league-phase fixtures without conceding.
Indeed, back-to-back 1-0 triumphs against Arsenal and RB Leipzig have reaffirmed Inter’s continental credentials.
With only Liverpool amassing more points than Inter’s 13, the Serie A champions are in pole position to qualify for the knockout stages.
Given the difficulties imposed by the new Champions League format, it’s no small feat by any stretch of the imagination.
However, Barella and his teammates always aspire to the ultimate goals, including winning the tournament for the first time since 2010.
Inter featured in the Champions League final in 2023.
Unfortunately, Manchester City squeezed past the Nerazzurri in an evenly contested Istanbul showpiece.
Two years on, Inzaghi’s men are well-positioned to do one better.
Barella insists Inter will use every tool at their disposal to ascend the European throne this season.
“We always aim to raise the bar,” he admitted.
“Others put pressure on us, but we like that.
“We’ll try to win everything we can, knowing it’s challenging; sometimes it takes time, sometimes luck.
“But, we’ll give it our all.”
Inter will resume their outstanding European journey on December 10 when they head to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen.
They’ll need to approach this encounter with cautious optimism despite fantastic continental exploits.
Meanwhile, Barella joined Lautaro Martinez and five other clubmates in the 2023/24 Serie A Best XI.
“It’s a source of pride when others recognize your work,” he admitted.
Inter return to Serie A action next weekend, hosting newly promoted Parma at Giuseppe Meazza.
