Federico Dimarco feels that it’s a “pleasure” to have Lautaro Martinez as captain at Inter Milan.

The 26-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after Inter’s 1-0 win over Roma. He hailed the Argentine, who was the Nerazzurri’s match-winner on the night.

Martinez wearing the captain’s armband for Inter is now a familiar sight.

The 27-year-old has been the captain for over a year now.

Martinez inherited the armband from Samir Handanovic in the summer of 2023 following the Slovenian’s retirement from football.

Martinez had been a leader on and off the pitch for longer than that. But becoming the captain certainly represented something important for him and for Inter.

Federico Dimarco: “A Pleasure to Have Lautaro Martinez As Captain” At Inter

This evening against Roma, Martinez showed just why he is so important for Inter.

The 27-year-old was the scorer of the Nerazzurri’s winning goal in a tough 1-0 victory in Serie A.

The goal came courtesy of a counterattack that was truthfully a gift from the Giallorossi.

But that is not to take anything away from Martinez’s excellent finish.

That was Martinez’s fourth goal for Inter this season, and his third in Serie A.

The Argentine has not been at his prolific best this season so far. An evident lack of match-sharpness saw him go several matches into the season without scoring.

But Martinez has shown why he is the captain by putting his head down and working, not letting his early goal drought demoralize him, and returning to form.

And the results were evident this evening against Roma.

Inter wingback Federico Dimarco said after the match that “We know Lautaro.”

“It’s an honour and a pleasure to have him as captain.”

“He has to keep working, and then the goals will come,” Dimarco said of his Nerazzurri captain.

And then the Italian international added that “It’s not up to me to say whether he deserves to win the Ballon d’Or. He’s won a lot, and he has to keep going.”
