Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco offers a detailed explanation for his world-class strike against Frosinone but downplays comparisons with Roberto Carlos.

The 25-year-old stunned the world by scoring a goal from 56 meters against Frosinone last weekend.

The Italian’s rocket sailed over Canarini goalkeeper Stefano Turati before landing in the net.

This wonder strike rapidly went viral, but some argued that the Nerazzurri star meant to cross the ball rather than aim at goal.

Nevertheless, Dimarco insisted that he had every intention of finding the back of the net on that occasion.

The wingback returns to talk about that screamer, explaining how he glimpsed the goalkeeper off his line.

“That was a shot on goal,” proclaimed Dimarco in his post-match interview with Rai Sport (via FcInterNews) following Italy’s 5-2 win over North Macedonia.

“First, out of the corner of my eye, I look at Dumfries. Then, I see the goalkeeper. I noticed that he was outside his goal.

“So for better or worse, I took the shot and the ball came in.”

Inter Milan Star Federico Dimarco Downplays Roberto Carlos Comparisons

This wonderful goal earned the Italy international comparisons with Brazil and Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos.

However, Dimaro rebuffed them, preferring to keep his feet on the ground.

“Let’s not make comparisons. He was a player who made football history. So let’s keep our feet on the ground.”

The left-back also stated that reaching the Euro 2024 is an obligation for defending champions Italy.

The Azzurri will lock horns with Ukraine in the decisive qualifier on Monday. The Italians only need a draw to book their place in the tournament.

“All the matches at the international level are difficult. Ukraine is a strong national team and we have to be careful from start to finish.

“I think reaching the European Championship is almost an obligation. Italy won the last version. Thus, the fans expect us to qualify.”
