Alessandro Bastoni trained separately from the group on Monday due to a minor fitness problem.

He has featured in all three Serie A matches for Inter this season. But he picked up a knock against Atalanta last time out

With the Nerazzurri 4-0 up, Simone Inzaghi refused to take risks with his defensive cornerstone.

The Inter head coach withdrew Bastoni at the hour mark for Carlos Augusto.

That knock he suffered on Saturday night will prevent him from playing for Italy this Friday.

However, Bastoni could recover in time for Italy’s encounter against Israel. The two teams will lock horns at Boszik Arena in Budapest next Monday

Luciano Spalletti’s men commence the new Nations League campaign on Friday as they head to Paris to take on France.

Bastoni will be out for a curtain-raising Group A/2 fixture at the Parc des Princes.

Italy will seek a fast start, with matches against Israel and Belgium waiting in the wings.

While Spalletti won’t have the Inter star at his disposal this week, Bastoni should be ready for the game against the Israelis.

The EURO 2020 winners seek redemption for a disappointing EURO 2024 campaign.

Gli Azzurri slumped to a 2-0 loss to Switzerland in the round of 16 after squeaking into the knockout stages.

Spalletti’s charges have amends to make, and the Nations League could form a perfect backdrop for their quest for recovery.

Italy are no strangers to going the distance in this competition.

They’ve recorded two third-place finishes in the past four years.
