Inter Milan have informed striker Marko Arnautovic that they would allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer.

This according to German outlet Fussballeuropa. They report that the Nerazzurri have made clear to the Austrian that he can leave this summer if a club can cover his wages, with Trabzonspor keen.

Inter are not exactly forcing Arnautovic out the door this summer.

Unlike in the case of Joaquin Correa – who Inter will offload by any means necessary – Inter could keep Arnautovic in their squad for next season.

The 35-year-old former West Ham United and Stoke City striker is under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of next June.

If Arnautovic were to stay at Inter he would be a backup striker for next season.

But the Nerazzurri are not going to stand in the way of Arnautovic leaving. So much so, Fussballeuropa report, that they would even allow him to leave without a transfer fee.

There is some interest in Arnautovic’s signature at the moment.

The strongest links have been to Turkey. Trabzonspor are particularly keen on signing the Austrian international.

However, Arnautovic could still constitute an expensive signing for the Turkish side, between his wages and a transfer fee.

Reportedly Arnautovic earns around €3.5 million net per season at Inter.

However, Fussballeuropa report, Inter have told Arnautovic that if he finds an agreement with a new club that are willing to cover his wages, they will not necessarily demand a fee.

That would certainly make a deal with an interested club more likely.

Now, it is in the hands of the player himself.

Inter have made it clear to Arnautovic that he will not be a regular starter next season. If he wants to leave to seek more playing time he is free to do so.

But on the other hand if Arnautovic decides that he is happy to stay and accept a backup role then he could stay.
