Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi heaped praise on treble-chasing manager Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInter1908, Bergomi discussed Wednesday’s triumph at Feyenoord.

Despite winning 2-0, courtesy of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram’s goals, Bergomi insists there’s much room for improvement.

“The aspect that needs improvement is the quality of play and ball movement, which used to be much smoother,” he said.

“In Italy, teams have now adapted to Inter’s rotations.

“They no longer mark man-to-man, making it harder to build out from the back.

“That’s why having everyone in top form is crucial, especially the strikers, who play a fundamental role.”

Meanwhile, Bergomi urged Inzaghi to play Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani more often.

“Bagnoli used to say that strikers make teams play well, and at Inter, they need to be at their best,” he added.

“It’s true that Inter has a strong starting eleven.

“But if Inzaghi wants to compete on all fronts, he can’t think that way anymore – he must play Asllani and Zielinski. Must.

After beating Feyenoord in Rotterdam, Inzaghi made a ‘treble’ gesture, which quickly went viral.

“For the past two years, Inzaghi has been the only one clearly stating his objectives,” Bergomi stated.

“Last year, he talked about the second star, and this year, he said, ‘We play to win.’

“He has always been upfront about it. And that ‘treble’ gesture? He gave a slight smile, but he meant, ‘We’re in the mix.’

“The club had already grown before, winning even under Conte, but when Inzaghi arrived, there was a financial restructuring.

“Inter hasn’t been active in the transfer market and had to rely on free-agent signings.

“That’s why Inzaghi’s work deserves constant recognition.

“I keep saying Inter isn’t the strongest team, but the smartest one. Juventus, Milan, and Roma all have squad depth too.

“That’s why Inzaghi’s work should always deserve the praise.”
