Inter Milan are hoping to keep their imposing defensive record of clean sheets in away matches alive against Hellas Verona.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCinterNews. They note that the last time the Nerazzurri conceded away from home came in September.
Inter’s defensive start to the season has been far from ideal.
There have been some strong defensive performances from the Nerazzurri. But what has really been lacking compared to last campaign has been consistency at the back.
That is a big part of the reason why Inter have dropped as many points as they have in the league.
However, if there has been something to build upon for Inter it’s been their defensive record away from home.
At the San Siro, Inter have been quite porous.
The Nerazzurri conceded a whopping four goals in their remarkable draw with Juventus last month.
Meanwhile, Inter also conceded against Napoli in their top-of-the-table clash before the November international break.
In both of those matches against direct rivals, Inter’s inability to prevent goals has seen them have to settle for sharing the points.
Away from home, on the other hand, the last goal that Inter conceded was on September.
That was in Friuli against Udinese.
In all of Inter’s away matches since the October break, they have managed to avoid conceding.
There was a 1-0 away win against Roma. And then a victory by the same scoreline against Young Boys in the Champions League.
In both of those matches, defensive solidity was vital for Inter getting a win in matches where they weren’t at their best in attack.
Away to Empoli, Inter won 3-0, meanwhile.
Tomorrow afternoon, Inter will be aiming to make it three away clean sheets on the bounce.
