It is highly unlikely that Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram will partake in the Supercoppa Italiana final after picking up a slight injury.
This according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Inter medical staff will assess the France international over the next couple days.
Inter striker Thuram had to come off at halftime in yesterday’s Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Atalanta.
The 27-year-old had been in the starting eleven for the match. And he did play the entire first half.
However, at halftime, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to make a substitution. Mehdi Taremi replaced Thuram in attack.
After the match, Inzaghi confirmed that this was because Thuram was feeling some stiffness in his left adductor muscle.
The decision to take Thuram off in yesterday’s match was more of a precaution than anything.
However, it is not yet clear whether the Frenchman will be able to shake off his issue in the next couple days.
Certainly, Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi won’t want to take any risks with Thuram in the Supercoppa final.
Inter will face either AC Milan or Juventus in the final on Monday. The Rossoneri and the Bianconeri meet in the semifinal today.
According to the Gazzetta, over the next couple days the Inter medical staff will monitor Thuram.
But at the moment, the feeling is that it’s not likely the 27-year-old will be able to feature in the final.
Therefore, Mendi Taremi would seem to be the favourite to start if Thuram isn’t available. On the other hand, reports the Gazzetta, Joaquin Correa could also get the chance.
