It’s still uncertain whether or not Icelandic international Gudmundsson will stay at Genoa or leave in the remaining three weeks of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is a target for a number of clubs in Serie A.

Inter have been the subject of perhaps the strongest links. But Juventus have also been eyeing up a move for Gudmundsson.

And in the last week or so, Fiorentina have seemed to be on the verge of a deal for Gudmundsson.

The Tuscans have reportedly identified the Genoa forward as a replacement for Nico Gonzalez, who is close to joining Juventus.

In spite of that fact, however, Gudmundsson remains a Genoa player. The Ligurians have not agreed a deal with any of the clubs interested in the former AZ Alkmaar forward.

Inter Floating Gudmundsson Arnautovic Loan Swap With Genoa

With Gudmundsson’s situation still up in the air, Inter continue to believe that a move is possible.

The Nerazzurri could wait it out and swoop in the last couple of weeks of the transfer window.

The Gazzetta note that there will not be any decisive developments before this weekend. That is because Inter and Genoa face one another in their Serie A opener on Saturday.

However, after then Inter could make their move.

The Gazzetta report that Inter would only want Gudmundsson on an initial loan deal.

Part of the reason for that is financial. The Nerazzurri cannot afford to outlay a large fee for the Icelander right away.

Then there is the looming factor of Gudmundsson’s legal issues in his native country, where a trial for sexual assault is set for later in 2024. That raises doubts about his future.

But if a loan were to be possible, Inter could decide to take the plunge.

And according to the Gazzetta, the Nerazzurri believe that they could tempt Genoa with a loan swap.

Considering the Grifone are keen to sign a replacement for Mateo Retegui, who joined Atalanta this summer, Inter could offer forward Marko Arnautovic as part of a deal for Gudmundsson.
