Inter Milan have been keeping on Nantes teenager Nathan Zeze, but they could have some company in the race in the shape of West Ham United.

The 19-year-old is a Nantes native who has been sharpening his skills at his hometown club from an early age.

Last season, the defender earned a promotion to the first team and collected 13 appearances in Ligue 1, cementing himself as one of the most promising talents in French football.

In recent weeks, Zeze has reportedly landed on Inter’s shortlist.

The Italian champions are on the lookout for a young left-footed centre-back who can act as Alessandro Bastoni’s understudy.

And as it happens, Zeze ticks all the boxes.

A French source reported yesterday that the Nerazzurri presented Nantes with an offer of 15 million euros. However, the Ligue 1 side turned it down, holding out for 20 million, which remains an attainable figure for the Italian champions.

But according to Sport Italia via FcInterNews, Nantes have raised their price to 30 million euros

Aside from the relatively high asking price, Inter are facing yet another hurdle, as West Ham have joined the fray.

The source claims that the Hammers are on the move for the France U18 starlet.

Nevertheless, the Premier League side could soon abandon the chase. That’s because the club is reportedly on the cusp of signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 24-year-old has been tipped to sign for Juventus for several weeks now. But with the Bianconeri failing to find a definitive agreement with Nice, West Ham pounced on the situation.

So if the Hammers decide to end their pursuit of Zeze, this would boost Inter’s chances of landing the player.

However, reaching Nantes’ asking price remains a significant knot.
