Inter Milan are considering signing Anthony Martial on a free transfer when his contract at Manchester United expires this summer.

Martial will leave Manchester United at the end of the season with the Red Devils having decided against offering the Frenchman an extension to his deal.

The 28-year-old has struggled for form and fitness in recent campaigns and has featured for only 455 minutes in the Premier League this season, scoring once.

His underwhelming nine-year spell with the club will come to its conclusion in the summer and Inter Milan are reportedly prepared to offer Martial a new challenge, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Simone Inzaghi is keen to improve his forward options at the San Siro and have already agreed a deal to sign Mehdi Taremi from Porto as a free agent. Inter have had huge success with free transfer signings in recent windows with Marcus Thuram and Hakan Çalhanoğlu among the success stories.

Inter are long-term admirers of Martial and his availability on a free transfer appeals, though there is rival interest from Fenerbahce and two unnamed French clubs.

Martial is viewed as an alternative, however, to top target Albert Gudmundsson. The Icelandic forward has thrived since helping Genoa to promotion back into Serie A and has 12 goals and three assists in Italy’s top tier this season. Genoa are understood to value the 26-year-old at around €30m, with Inter working on a way to finance that deal.

Gudmundsson scored four goals in the play-offs for Euro 2024 last month, though Iceland’s defeat to Ukraine means they will miss out on the tournament. His preference is believed to be to remain in Serie A, despite reported interest from the Premier League with Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham all linked.
