Inter Milan have announced their squad list for the 2024/25 Champions League season, excluding Joaquin Correa while including Tajon Buchanan.
According to Inter’s website, Simone Inzaghi has ruled the Argentine misfit out of his European squad. But the Canadian wingback has made the cut.
Despite being sidelined since the 2024 Copa America, the 25-year-old has been on the sidelines.
However, Simone Inzaghi has given the former Club Brugge ace the benefit of the doubt. The Inter boss has put the Canadian on Inter’s European list.
Correa wasn’t as lucky. Following a dismal season-long loan at Marseille, many expected him to leave in the summer.
But, the ex-Lazio forward refused several proposals during the transfer window, even though Inzaghi wrote him off.
AEK Athens and several clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia were interested in Correa.
While Inter hoped to cash in on their flop, the 30-year-old wasn’t enthusiastic about departing Inter.
Instead, he opted to stay and fancy his chances. No such scenario seems possible after Inzaghi omitted him from his Champions League list.
In addition to Buchanan, three out of the four summer arrivals have made Inzaghi’s list.
Piotr Zielinski, Mehdi Taremi, and Josep Martinez will be eligible to feature in Europe’s elite club competition.
Meanwhile, Tomas Palacios is out. The Argentine center-back joined Inter toward the end of the summer transfer window.
The Nerazzurri paid Independiente Rivadavia €6.5 million to lure the 21-year-old to Serie A.
Like his younger compatriot, Joaquin Correa has failed to convince Inzaghi.
The troubled forward experienced a disappointing pre-season. As a result, he had to watch the opening three Serie A rounds from afar.
His exclusion from the Champions League squad confirms Inter’s ambition to get his wages off their books.
Turkey and Saudi Arabia are the only tangible options for Correa now that the transfer window in Europe is over.
