Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck has praised Bayer Leverkusen in the build-up to tonight’s heavyweight UEFA Champions League encounter.
Speaking to Inter TV via FCInterNews, the ex-Germany U21 international acknowledged Die Werkself’s strength but maintained he and his teammates are ready to upset the BayArena.
High-flying Inter eased past Parma 3-1 last Friday to stretch their unbeaten streak to 13 matches and set themselves up nicely for this game.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s men will take the field in high spirits, seeking a potentially crucial triumph to seal automatic knockout qualification.
With only pacesetters Liverpool picking up more points than Inter’s 13 across the first five rounds, they’re close to achieving that goal.
However, there’s no room for complacency.
Bisseck, who will fill Benjamin Pavard’s shoes, insists the Italian giants have prepared ‘well’ for this daunting task.
Bisseck will team up with Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni at the heart of Inzaghi’s backline.
They’ll be the backbone of Inter’s bid to become the first team in Champions League history to start a new season with six consecutive clean sheets.
Yet, Leverkusen’s scoring prowess will likely require Inzaghi’s defensive trio to bring their A-game to the table.
And Bisseck is adamant they’ll be up to the challenge.
“We are ready for the match; we know we’re up against a very strong team, but we’ve prepared well,” he said.
“We’re in good form, and we’ll need to deliver an excellent performance.”
Bisseck also admits the Nerazzurri won’t pay attention to a raucous atmosphere at the BayArena.
“We’re not thinking about the atmosphere; we know what we want,” he continued. “We need to defend well and aim to keep another clean sheet.”
Finally, the 24-year-old shared his feelings about returning to his homeland for a titanic Champions League game.
“It’s a wonderful feeling; there are many friends and family in the stadium.
“This is an important game for me, and I’m only focused on delivering a great performance to help the team win.”
