Inter Milan have enquired about the availability of Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, according to reports.

The Italian giants are in the market for a new central defender with Milan Skriniar expected to join Paris Saint-Germain this year.

Skriniar’s contract expires at the end of the season and he confirmed over the weekend that he will be moving to the French capital.

“Yes, it’s true — I have signed with PSG,” he said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. “I’m waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”

Skriniar hopes the two clubs can agree a fee so he can move to PSG this month and Inter are planning for the future without their star player.

The report says that Maguire’s reputation abroad ‘remains high’ after another stellar showing for England at a major tournament.

His time with United has been very difficult, however. Despite being club captain, the 29-year-old has struggled for minutes this term as new manager Erik ten Hag continues to select Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Maguire is keen to resolve his Red Devils future at the end of the season ‘with a number of clubs in the Premier League and abroad likely to be strengthening their defence’ in the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag is eager to keep hold of the former Leicester City defender with a the club competing in four competitions, including the Europa League, where they face Barcelona in the first knockout round.

Maguire played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading but admitted afterwards that he does not want to be a bit-part player for the remainder of 2022-23.

He said: “I’m 29 and haven’t really been in this position in my career before.

“I don’t want to get used to it but it is part and parcel of football. I’m pushing, training well, and when chance comes, I need to take it.

“It was two-and-a-half weeks since my last start but I’ve felt I have looked after myself. I’ve been working hard in training. The lads who have been playing have been doing well. I have to be ready when my chance comes.

“We’re all going to be needed for the second half of the season.”

Maguire is not the only United defender Inter are interested in signing.

Ten Hag apparently ‘counts on’ the Swedish centre-half and has decided not to let him leave on a temporary or permanent basis.

Like Maguire, Lindelof has struggled for game time this term, starting only eight domestic matches under the Dutch manager.

Maguire and Lindelof were former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s most used defensive pairing. They have played 111 times together.
